We are from Indianapolis and came out for a Scuba class. Two of the instructors recommended Baumbach's and it was amazing. We went both Saturday and Sunday for lunch it was so good. Saturday we got a sampler of Ribs and pulled pork and it was the best I've had in the Midwest. The ribs were so amazing that is all we got on Sunday. The Mashed potatoes were tasty and chunky and made with real potatoes. I totally recommend this place.

To make this short and sweet, whenever I come back home, which is pretty infrequently (unfortunately), I always make sure to make it down to Baumbach's. The reason: Baumbach's barbeque is superb, and restaurant is run by some of the most wonderful people you'll meet. So, if you're looking for an eating option where you'll get superb barbeque and a wonderful atmosphere, then Baumbach's is a no brainer.

1st time to this place and had high expectations. 3.5 stars Plan spend $12-15/head avg not including your drink. Not bad at all, we'll return sometime. 100 miles but not a destination drive for me. A bit off the beaten path- but that's what we seek out. Thanks to yelp nation. Our party of 3 had the Sloppy T (brisket) sandwich, David Crockett (brisket) sandwich and pit BBQ Nachos w/ pork - rounded out with sides of cheesy hash brown casserole, baked apples, onion petals and corn bread & pepper jelly. Firstly, this is a bar. Don't expect otherwise walking in the door. Fine by me, but be aware. The chopped brisket sandwiches were very, very good. Especially coupled with the house named sauce (smokey, zippy, sweetish) or the absolutely phenomenal red delicious apple bourbon sauce (sweet mild, slightly smokey). They've got a good mustard based sauce called Kentucky Gold that comes close to a South Carolina style sauce that would be awesome w/ their pork....anyhow... Pit BBQ nachos - unusual and good. Somewhat indescribable salsa but good. Did I say unusual? Good though. Sides sort of kept this place from a higher rate though for ME. Other folks might be perfectly fine. Cheesy Hash Brown casserole was overcooked and mushy - could have passed for cheesy mash. Baked apples; OK - too sweet and not spiced. Onion petals - doubtful house made but perfectly suitable best of the side lots. Corn bread muffins w/ jalapeno jelly - tasty. Would love to see fried biscuits and apple butter in there too. But that's me... heck, while I'm putting my 2 shiney pennies out there - I'd like to see a smaller menu instead of the oversized, unwieldy one presented as well. Some mention of challenging service in other reviews - it was fine for us. When I'm back I'll rotate to other sides and either give the chicken, steaks or burgers a shot.

We went early so maybe that was the problem but when we got there we were the only people in the place so the hostess/ bartender told us to sit anywhere, so we picked a place in the corner and ordered our food .I ordered the full rack of ribs and when it came out it smelled delicious and tasted delicious BUT it was the toughest piece of meat I have ever eaten in my life , I literally had to stand the ribs up and saw through it with my knife to get meat off . While we were eating another couple came in and the hostess seated them directly next to us now normally this wouldn't be a problem but the restaurant was completely empty and they should have tried to at least space a few tables Inbetween , I will try this place again to see if maybe we just came on a bad day

Been several times. Go over to Richmond Indiana for work and we go out of our way to stop in. Lived in Atlanta for 6 years and feel like I know bbq. This place does an amazing job and it is a gem. I hesitated to leave a glowing review for fear it would become packed, but not a true concern with them being so off the beatin path. Many reviews about poor service, but that had never been our experience. Additionally, I think all yelpers should NOT be allowed to comment on service unless they have waited tables at some point in their life.

They've redeemed themselves! Today, we had a different server, Opal. Sweetest gal ever!! The food was great, service was great... We'll be back!

A nice rustic environment and the only place I've seen that has a hat rack for the customers! Our two appetizers were great. Cornbread with jalapeños jelly and home made potatoe chips were great ! The 3 meat combo with beef brisket (tender but not much smoke), mild sausage links were very unique flavor, but the ribs had good flavor but were difficult to eat. Leathery and no where close to falling off the bone. When I was asked by the waitress I expressed my concern and she said their ribs are never fall off the bone because they are not baby backs and they are smoked. They looked like small bones to me and being smoked should not equate to leathery. The side dishes were good, like the cowboy beans. Service was good and the place was busy. A good meal for just passing through.

They have trailer in Greenville Oh at Rual King. Food is OK. Service BAD. Seemed I was bothering the woman. POLITELY Asked if could have taste of Cowboy Beans, have no idea what they are. She didnot answer me, thought maybe didn't hear, so asked Politely Again, she proceeded to tell me I could BUY SOME !! Told her only talking of 2 dang beans. I wish now would have left food back at trailer. And walked away.. She should really consider different line of work. They will never ever get another single dollar of my money. Doesn't matter how food taste.

This, our second visit, was much better than our first, when we swore never to return. It's been a couple if years and I'm glad we gave 'em another shot. Everything, from the food to the service, was good. I think this is the only BBQ joint that serves fresh green beans (not canned). The cornbread was to die for; the wings, pulled pork, and other sides were classic. Nothing to write home about, but prepared well. Portions were just right; nothing left to take home but our bellies are full. We'll be back.

The chopped Brisket is very very good, so is The Alamo.... Has coleslaw, the beef brisket, provolone cheese.... On Texas toast!! Service was great, as was the atmosphere. Jukebox full of a mix of songs, very relaxing, and just good food.

It's not that they have "good" nachos, it's that they make the best nachos in the world.
(5)Shurika P.
Cold food and poor service despite it being dead. There was 1 server for 4 tables and she had trouble keeping up with them. Another worker was sitting at a customer's table chatting during our entire dinner, no evidence of team work to serve customers.

We were driving across the country (Maryland to Colorado) and were looking for a great place to eat - after seeing a few run down barbecue joints we were craving good Texas barbecue. This place hit the spot!!! We had the three meat tray (rib, brisket and pork) - it was DELICIOUS! The host was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about gluten allergies. I have a sever gluten intolerance and didn't have a single reaction after eating here. I'd recommend for anyone looking for delicious BBQ and/or gluten free options.

GO HERE. If you like bbq at all, you'll love it. I've had bbq all over the country and this place is #1 for me. (Yes, even above Stubb's in Austin, no lie.) Now, I can admit I may be every so slightly biased, because 1.) it's directly across from a cemetery, and 2.) when we pulled up there was a beautiful rainbow visible above, and it made me predisposed to feel goods. That being said, the sweet tea isn't sickly sweet like so many other places, you can actually taste the TEA. Wonderful. You get some rolls/cornbread when you first sit down and the hot pepper jelly that comes with is mouth wateringly delicious. (I bought a jar to go for $6.50.) Just sweet enough and just hot enough. Perfection. The beef brisket chili is to die for, peppery and packed with flavor and we split a 3-meat platter, in order to try as much as possible. The pulled pork was pretty good (can't go wrong with pit bbq, really), but the stand out for me was the hot links. I usually don't even eat hot links, but I was feeling spicy I guess. One of the employees let us know that the recipe for the hot links is the owner's. He has them blended according to his recipe and brought in. Whatever's in that recipe, it works.....I wouldn't change a thing. Muy delish. The service was a little bit slow, but I believe that was due to understaffing and a rather large party in front of us (around 16-18 people). We didn't have to wait to be seated, but it was a long while before our waitress came around to get our order. A bartender got our drinks while we waited and he was very friendly and apologetic for the wait. Seems that the cook (or one of the cooks?) is who brought our food out to us, which is a bit unconventional, but like I said I think we just happened to be there on an unusually busy night. The cornbread was a little boring, but I really can't even register that as a complaint, since everything else was so outstanding. I really wanted to try the rum cake, but we were just too full of porky/beefy bbq goodness! Guess that'll have to happen on the next trip! Ambience: Rustic (in a good way) :)

Great BBQ! Wow! The best Turkey I have ever had. Smoked flavor and very juicy. I am a Brisket guy, but today the Turkey wins! Atmosphere was very pleasant, service was great as was the conversation with Tom. Will absolutely come back if I have the chance. Keep up the good work, next time I'm there I want a tour!

This is a little gem. We found it on Yelp while driving back to Dayton from Indianaopolis. It is worth the short 2 miles off the highway. The food was fabulous, sauces are the best we've had, and the service was wonderful. We saw several families come in so it seems to be a popular local place, but it wasn't too crowded. We will drive an hour from our house to go back again.

Fabulous place! Service is top notch and incredibly friendly, decor is nice, beer selection is surprisingly good, and they are vegetarian-friendly...What more can you ask for? (Okay, I'm a vegetarian so it's possible I'm biased!) I saw the review on Yelp and noticed that they had a veggie burger on the menu so headed on over (I'm in town for the night on business and didn't want a chain restaurant dinner). I was fully prepared to learn that they were out of veggie burgers or no longer carried them but was thrilled to learn that not only did they have them but they had a good assortment of sides from which to choose. The side salad was crisp (blue cheese dressing was amazing) and the french fries....ah, words fail me here. Fabulous fries! I only wish that I'd paced myself a bit better so that I could have dessert. The owners were incredibly nice and friendly; I'm sorry that I probably won't be back for awhile. But believe me, next time I'm in town I'll be back at Baumbach's. Thanks for a fabulous meal and good company!

Service is through the roof, definite 5 stars. Food is a solid 4 stars. Also, there's nothing else to eat in this area that's any good. (If you're willing to eat at chains, you're probably not even reading this review.) Bottom line: If you're in the area and hungry, stop reading this review, go to Baumbach's, and eat. Now, that being said, two suggestions. One: get a couple more beers on tap. Shiner Bock is a nice Texas touch but I only saw 3 or 4 taps in the whole bar. Two: Get pecan pie. I know your desserts have pecans in them, and the rum cake is at least 4 stars, but when I eat good BBQ I want to finish with either a good pecan pie or a cheap, sloppy, shack-in-the-woods, ear-to-ear-grinning pecan pie. Doesn't matter which, but gotta have one.

Service: Outstanding Brisket: Outstanding Slaw: Yummy! Potato soup: Fantastic Cobb salad with smoked chicken: Yummy! Great place. We'll be back again and again.

We're actually in California and didn't get to enjoy this food, but I have to tell you how Tom and the staff went above and beyond for us. We have a dear friend who just lost her father and went back to New Paris to be with her family. We wanted to do something for her and her lovely family beyond just the token bouquet of flowers. Tom accepted a large same-day order and delivered it in the snow! They absolutely loved the food. Our friend is also unable to eat gluten, so the gluten-free options were so nice. Thank you so very much for being there for us when we couldn't be there in person. Your food was warming and welcome in their difficult time. You guys are awesome! I wish we could give you all hugs!

Group of six of us were here on a Thursday evening in February. It was pretty quiet and we were one of only a couple tables that evening. I had high hopes after people told me how great it was and I was expecting a lot more out of the food. I got pulled pork, turnip greens, and macaroni and cheese. I like that you can put on your own sauces (they are in squeeze bottles on the table) but wish the waitress would have provided a bit more guidance. The turnip greens were too salty and I couldn't eat more than a bite. We also had an issue with our beers- an obviously very flat keg that they poured from and didn't seem too happy to bring us new beer when we pointed this out. There are complimentary corn bread muffins with the meal with jalapeno jelly. Food is ok, but nothing special. If a group of friends wanted to come here again, I'd go but I don't think it's at the top of my list of restaurants for dinner out in Richmond.

Man-Alive that's some tasty BBQ! A big sign declaring that Baumbach's won the DDN People's Choice Award for BBQ greeted us outside the door, which was surprising since it was so far from Dayton and I'd never heard of it before. But then, I'd never been to New Paris before either. I had the Davy Crockett Brisket sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries which were both incredible. Our friends had dry rubbed ribs that were meaty and manageable, not fall off the bone and fatty. They had 6 or so Ole Ray sauces on the table, all delicious and impossible to choose a favorite. I ended up buying a bottle of the Peach BBQ sauce. The Sweet Potato Fries became bartering chips as we were finishing up and the cornbread was... well I scammed a takeout box of it and have been working away at it daily. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Make the trip, covet the "Q".
(5)Peter L.
Worst service ever. Rude waitress and owner was worse. Never. Ever. Going. Back. Horrible people there.
(1)Michael B.
The dry-rubbed ribs are as a good as you will find anywhere including Memphis! Certainly nothing comparable in this area. I don't know where "Q Shack" name came from.

I had the pulled pork sandwich here, and I can't say it was all that good. I had high hopes when we pulled up and there was a real hardwood smoker going behind the restaurant, but the pork didn't hold up. The bark was OK, so they didn't skimp on the rub; however, I couldn't see a smoke ring anywhere. It wasn't bad for a chopped pork sandwich, but it wasn't good as a bar-b-que pork sandwich. Their sauces were OK, nothing really to write about. I always look for a really hot sauce, and they didn't have anything I would consider hot. The people I was with weren't impressed by the ribs either. The only thing that people were really blown away with was the brisket, so next time I guess I'll have to try that.

Whoa!!! So good. It's hard for me to get excited over barbecue since they are usually all the same. Not this place. It is so unexpected in this location/ The ambiance is great. Big table and lots of wood and a bar and big tv. Great beers on draft like Shocktop and Yuengling. Now to the food. Complimentary cornbread muffins and dinner rolls. That come with this side of jalapeno jelly! It's spicy and perfect. Then we all had ribs and jalapeno poppers for apps. The ribs were unbelievable!! Made me wish I got them for my meal. And they have all sorts of sauces to try out on the table. My favorite I think was the Red Delicious and Bourbon one. The jalapeno poppers were the only thing I didn't like,. The seeds weren't left in so no spiciness and just not good. Then most of us got The Alamo. That is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten in my life! They cook the meat out back when you order it. The brisket was unbelievable. Then the buttered and toasted and not too thick rye bread, cheese and the coleslaw. wow. I also had the sweet potato fries which were great. I tried a couple bites of my sandwich with the barbecue sauce but it was better without it. Others said the onion petals as a side were great. And the brisket dipped in a mustardy and horseradish sauce (which I think may have technically been for the onion petals) was amazing too.

MY wife and were staying at the campground across the street for a long weekend while in New Paris. We drove past Baumbach's on several occasions over the weekend. Just driving by you can smell how good the food is going to be. I ordered the Char-Grilled burger. While it does take about 25 minutes to make, like the menu says, it's "Well worth the wait." Burgers are one of my favorite foods. I have had my fair share of burgers, and this one is in my Top 2 (possibly my favorite.) I have considered spending a day to make the 5 hour one-way drive back just to go back here and eat. The only thing that held me back was that gas was almost $4 a gallon. That is how good it is!
